Instructions for adding a description
Introduction
This is a comprehensive guide for adding a description and using complex content structures to present text user-friendly.
The methods discussed here for adding various elements to a description are in line with best practices:
- SEO,
- secure presentation of contact information,
- digital accessibility (according to WCAG guidelines and Section 508).
Digital Accessibility
The description should be digitally accessible, compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards and Section 508.
If accessibility errors occur, we will correct the description. Correcting the description will not affect modifications to the content, except as required by the WCAG standard.
Formatting Text with Markdown
Since the editor's text formatting features are not digitally accessible, you can use the Markdown markup language. Learn Markdown Syntax. Page opens in a new window
Use Shortcodes
You can easily paste the shortcodes mentioned in this guide into the content editor.

1. Dividing a long description into parts
If you have a long description or want to structure your content more, you can use a special shortcode to create an accordion (or "harmonica"). An accordion is an interactive element that, when clicked, expands previously invisible content.
You can add any number of accordions (or "harmonicas") to your description.
See how the accordion works. Page opens in a new window
How to add an accordion?
In the description, enter the shortcode:
[accordion name="Test accordion 1" number="1"]
On a new line, enter the following content...
[/accordion]
Effect
The accordion has 2 mandatory attributes:
- The "name" attribute has a value displayed on the accordion button.
- "Number" is another unique integer, as you can add any number of accordions to the description. Each accordion should have a unique value for the "number" attribute.
The content of an accordion can be both paragraphs, texts and lists.
Example use
For example, you can use accordions to include in your description:
- Event regulations
- Training or workshop program
- Biographies of event leaders
- Technical and organizational details regarding participation
2. Heading structure

The H1 heading is the page title, and you can only use H2 and H3 headings in your description.
Headings are used to divide text into logical sections. A heading is a subheading that summarizes the content of a specific section of the description.
You can use H2 and H3 headings multiple times. It's important to maintain the heading hierarchy: the H3 heading is subordinate to the H2 heading.
If you have a very long description, you can title individual sections using H2 headings. If a section is still quite long, you can further divide it into subsequent sections using H3 headings.
3. Lists of items
There are two types of lists: ordered lists (numbered lists) and unordered lists.
Numbered list (ordered list)

Example of an ordered list (numbering):
- One
- Two
- Three
Use numbering especially when the order of list items is important.
Unordered list ("bullet list")

Example of an unordered list:
- One
- Two
- Three
General list tips
It's worth using lists, for example, to present an event schedule, training program, or list of attractions, etc.
Lists help convey key information to users and showcase the benefits of attending an event.
4. Telephone number and email address
First, use the dedicated page editing fields to present contact information. In the page editing section, in the "Description" tab, there are two separate fields for phone number and email address. Enter only the contact details there: only 1 phone number or only 1 email address, without any additional information. Do not enter the extension number in the phone number field.

Additional contact details
You can include additional phone numbers and email addresses in the description text. However, do so carefully for at least two reasons:
- Your data should not be copied by spambots. We have developed a special mechanism to limit this behavior. Protect your data!
- Address details should be pasted so that they act as active links to the default email application or to make a phone call on the user's device.
How do I enter my phone number and email address correctly?
Use shortcodes.
For phone numbers, use shortcodes
[phone lang="en"]+44 678 987 654[/phone]
or
[phone lang="pl"]+48 678987654[/phone]
The lang attribute value indicates the language of the additional text for the reader used here.
The phone number can contain spaces or dashes to visually divide the phone number into parts.
For email address use shortcode
[email]john@smith.com[/email]
A landline telephone number with an extension number
The extension number cannot be part of an active link with a landline phone number.
In this case, you should use a shortcode followed by the extension number in plain text, e.g.
[phone lang="en"]+44 678987654[/phone], ext. number: 123
5. Links to external websites and social media
Links (hyperlinks) should be added in a special way because:
- All links in the description should open in a new browser window (or tab) to prevent users from leaving the Event on Click website, where tickets for your event are being sold. Try to include as few links as possible to avoid causing users to leave the website while making a purchase decision.
- A link opening in a new window should include text for the reader to communicate this fact.
- A link opening in a new window should include an icon to warn users that clicking on it will take them to a new browser window.
To meet these requirements, we have prepared a special shortcode for creating links.
There are 2 types of shortcodes
When you need the link to be in a separate paragraph (on a separate line)
[external_link_p link="" name="" lang="en" reader=""]
When should a link be used in the text?
[external_link link="" name="" lang="en" reader=""]
Explanation of attributes
Link - The value of this attribute should be the full URL (absolute addressing). The link should begin with https:// or http:// .
Name - Anchor, the link's display text.
Lang - Enter a value of pl or en to specify the language in which the special text for the reader should be added, indicating that the link opens in a new window.
Reader - Additional text for the reader indicating that you want to provide the user with additional necessary information.
Examples
[external_link_p link="https://domena.com/article.html" name="Article about space" lang="en" reader="along with a film about black holes that has subtitles and a transcript"]
[external_link link="https://domena.org/" name="Website of the music band Safety Pin" lang="en" reader=""]
6. Graphics, photos
In the content editor, you can add graphics or photos. Click "Add Media" to launch a modal window and upload your file. You can upload a new file or use a previously uploaded file.
Each uploaded file will be public and indexed by search engines.

Restrictions on image files
- Allowed formats: JPG, JPEG, PNG
- Maximum file size: 1 MB
- Files are stored in your organizer account for 12 months
Tips
- Try to add as few image files as possible to ensure your event page loads as quickly as possible in the user's browser.
- Upload image files with a maximum width of 1920px. There's no point in uploading larger image files.
- Before uploading an image file, compress it to minimize its size. There are many free tools available online for this purpose.
- If you want to show users a gallery of your photos, first create a gallery on your website or social media profile, and then add a link to the gallery page in the description.
Alternative text for graphics (ALT)
When uploading your file, you can define alt text. If the image conveys specific information to the user, you should add alt text containing short text. The alt text cannot be long text.
If the image contains a lot of text, such as an event schedule, this is an error. Add this content as text, not as an image.
Alternatively, you can add a link to the event schedule file.
Uploading files
When adding an image to the description, you can define the alternative text (ALT) and the size of the image.

7. YouTube, Vimeo
Paste the link to the YouTube or Vimeo video into the editor. The link should be in a separate paragraph. After saving the changes, you'll see a rendered player on the page, allowing you to play the video, provided there's no blocking in the video settings on YouTube or Vimeo.
Ensure the video has a good title, as it will be added to the "title" attribute for the iframe in that player. If you can't change the video title, it's worth adding a few extra words in the text before the video.
Don't add too many videos, as this can negatively impact page performance and, as a result, your page will load slower in the user's browser.
Transferring and selling access to videos
Alternatively, you can give users access to the videos only after they purchase a ticket or register for the event.

8. Attaching files
Use the method described in point 5. The external link can also lead directly to a downloadable file.
Ensure additional information is included in the link description, e.g.:
[external_link_p link="https://domena.com/article.pdf" name="Article about space (PDF file, 2 MB)" lang="en" reader=""]
Where to upload your file?
- You can upload the file to any external network drive. Make sure it's a safe place to store your files.
- You can open a PDF file (max. 15 MB) in your editor and use the direct link to that file to build the shortcode.
File delivery after ticket purchase
Alternatively, you can send files to participants in a different form: after purchasing a ticket or registering for an event, the participant will receive an email with the ticket and optionally attached files.

9. Tips
1. Replacing items with a slash
If you use a slash to list things, use a space after each slash. Otherwise, a screen reader might interpret it as one word, making it harder for the user to understand your description.
Incorrect examples
One/Two/Three
$40/pers.
Correct examples
One / Two / Three
or
One/ Two/ Three
$40 / person
2. Expand custom abbreviations into full words
Screen readers may misread abbreviations, such as $40/pers.
Use the full form, e.g., $40 / person.
Instead of FB, write Facebook. This applies to all social networking sites.
Abbreviations for currencies, units of measure, and weights do not need to be expanded.
Capitalize common abbreviations, e.g., USA.
3. Don't use the word here
When creating a link, avoid using words like "here" or "click here." The hyperlink name (anchor) should clearly indicate what it refers to, e.g., Safety Pin's website, Motto's band profile, etc.
4. Do not center or justify text
Text should be left-aligned.
Do not justify text. A website is not a scientific publication or a book. Justified text is harder to read.
5. Words in another language
If the page currency is USD or EUR, words in languages other than English used in the description should be tagged in HTML as follows:
<span lang="fr">La Tour Eiffel</span>
The value of the "lang" attribute indicates the language of the word used.
The content editor has a "Visual" and a "Code" tab. You can modify HTML in the "Code" tab.
6. Tables
We don't plan to add tables in the content editor due to their complex structure in the code.
If you want to provide users with information in table format:
- Add the information to a Word or Excel file
- Upload the file to an external network drive
- Include a link to this external file in the description
- If you want to embed a table in a PDF file, ensure it complies with the PDF/UA standard
